Experience:
I've had my first dj experiences at school/friends/neighbourhood parties in the late '80's, spinning Pop, New Wave, N.D.W., New Beat, House. Not until 1997, as a music lover and critic (to me that's the same), asked to spin in Café Kobus in Zeeland and was given my own fridayevening spot. Later Dj Jurgen joined me. The evenings resulted in the themefest 'Insula Avalonia'. In the beginning my contribution was predominantly '80's orientated New Wave, E.B.M. and Industrial. Later, when the overall style moved to more '90's orientated: (Post-)Industrial, Dark Ambient and Noise, also due to influence of Noizguild in NYC.
Café Kobus was already decreasing its activities when I took Insula Avalonia with me to Nijmegen's Doornroosje club in 1999. Dj Ornny & Dj Medusa joined me there. Due to working one day a week at the Staalplaat recordstore in Amsterdam from 1999 to 2000 and influence of friends from Z-Bomb Soundsystem and their friends, I got increasingly interested in experimental techno, electro, acid & tekno. This culminated into an electronic jamsession in the small room of Doornroosje during the first festival edition of Insula Avalonia named 'Thorns Of Avalon' in 2000, more or less a predecessor of the Aesthetics parties later in Diogenes.
At this time I lost interest in '90's E.B.M. and left Insula Avalonia. I thought (Post-)Industrial would easily mix with Electro, Acid & Tekno instead, which was duely confirmed during the two Aesthetics parties I organised in Diogenes in 2003 and 2004 together with Dj Tomski from Diogenes, Z-Bomb Soundsystem and elements from the former Mononom Soundsystem. In 2005 some of my, previously dorment, musical interests led to starting up The Grey Area in Café Gonzo together with Mr. C in 2005: ALternative, Madchester, Indie (Dance), Triphop, Shoegazing. Later that year I joined the Dark Dancing Crew in Diogenes spinning the same genres until Diogenes collapsed in 2005. Gonzo switched owners, name & style at almost at the same time.
At the last summerfestival of Diogenes I organised a houseclassics evening together with Dj Ezzit from Z-Bomb, which planted the seed for another idea I would like to realise, besides my involvement in Glaxclock, named 'Electric Dreams': New Wave, Italo, Electro, House Classics. I'm looking for a place for this initiative at the moment, besides that I also perform in guest spots and I spin at private parties.
